Call Center Report: Feb. 19-28

- Dearborn, Michigan-based outsourcer Percepta say it isn't closing its 120-person Glasgow, Scotland call center, despite reports to the contrary. The center handles calls from European Ford and Jaguar customers.

- Dell opened its new Ottawa, Ontario call center with 100 agents and 100 more in training. As the Call Center Report mentioned in December, Dell's Ottawa center is expected to employ 500 in the next year.

- US Airways will add 150 reservations agents to its 200-person Reno, Nevada call center. The airline is "reshoring" its Philippine outsourced jobs back to the U.S.

- Kansas City, Missouri-based lock/line will not open a 500-person call center in Joplin, Missouri as planned. The cancellation may be because of the city's recent job growth; fewer people in the area need jobs now.

- The former Certegy call center in Middleton, Wisconsin is closing after the company's merger with Fidelity National Information Services. The center employs 350 people.

- AT&T is closing a 212-person Pittsburgh call center. The center's calls will be handled by AT&T's Lee's Summit, Missouri call center after the closing.

- AT&T is also closing an Appleton, Wisconsin call center. Of the 400 jobs there, 50 will be lost. Some people will be offered early retirement. AT&T's Milwaukee center, about two hours away, will absorb the jobs -- if agents are willing to drive that far.

- Workers at an Auckland, New Zealand call center for Restaurant Brands will go on strike on Febraury 24. The company operates KFC, Pizza Hut, and Starbucks outlets in New Zealand.

- Newtown, Pennsylvania-based outsourcer ICT Group will hire 50-60 people at its Wilton, Maine call center -- good news after Bank of America announced it will close four of their centers in Maine.

- Directory assistance outsourcer Infonxx opened a call center in Wichita, Kansas with 580 employees. The company plans to hire about 400 more.

- Denver-based phone company Qwest is opening a 600-person call center in Logan, Utah. Qwest has two call centers in Salt Lake City, one of them for Spanish-speakers.

- Scottsdale, Arizona-based outsourcer Fusion Marketing Partners has opened a call center in Santa Maria, California with 35 employees. They hope to hire 60 more soon.

- Bank of America is closing four more call centers, this time in Maine. 350 people will lose jobs. The bank will keep 2,000 agents at other Maine call centers for now.
