Call Center Report: April 12-18
In this week's update on the call centers that are opening, closing, and making news worldwide: Bank of America expands a call center instead of closing it? It's true! Also -- openings in Malaysia, New Zealand, Ghana, Zambia, Wales, and Estonia.
- Nottingham-based financial services company Jigsaw is opening a 100-person call center in Bridgend, Wales.

- The Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, have opened the Tolaga Bay Contact Centre to educate the local population about technology, and to promote local businesses.

- Washington, D.C.-based outsourcer Rising Data Solutions is opening a call center in Accra, Ghana.

- Hilton Hotels' European bookings call center in Tallinn, Estonia is hiring 50 new agents, growing the agent ranks to more than 300.

- Mobile phone company Celtel Zambia recently opened a 42-seat call center in Lusaka, Zambia.

- The Mayalsian bank Malayan Banking Bhd has opened a call center with a staff of 300. The center handles as many as 20,000 calls per day from the bank's seven million customers.

- Qwest Communications' 280-person Sioux Falls, South Dakota call center will be getting 120 new agents and an expansion to accommodate them.

- Bank of America, which has been making news by closing many of its call centers, is actually expanding one. The Wichita, Kansas center will get a bigger space and 35 new employees by October.
