Call Center Report: July 6-13
Lots of American news in this installment of the call center report: openings in Oregon, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Missouri
- North Carolina outsourcer Global Contact Services is opening a 200-person call center in Kingsville, Texas to handle insurance calls.

- Denver's Sato-Travel is closing its 27-person call center in Butte, Montana. The center handled travel arrangements for government and military clients.

- Denver-based phone company Qwest is closing its 175-person call center in Portland, Oregon.

- Country Insurance and Financial Services is opening a 30-person call center in Salem, Oregon. The company's representatives said the goal was to spread its centers out to protect against natural disasters.

- EchoStar Dish Network is opening a 600-person call center in Alvin, Texas, its third in Texas and eleventh in America. The new center will be in a former Wal-Mart building.

- British telecom company Belair Communications closed its 93-person call center in Bangalore, India. The closure was abrupt and the agents were surprised.

- United Airlines is closing a 74-person call center in Fort Wayne, Indiana as a part of its post-bankruptcy efficiency efforts.

- Orlando, Florida-based outsourcer Connextions plans to open a 300-person call center in Concord, North Carolina to expand operations and provide redundancies in case of hurricanes.

- Vienna, Virginia-based internet phone company SunRocket is opening a 500-person call center -- its first -- in a former MCI facility in Springfield, Missouri.

- The Pittsburgh-based pizza chain Vocelli is moving its franchise headquarters and its call center to a new building in Pittsburgh. All calls to Vocelli outposts are routed through the center.
