Technology Blogs

Frequent readers of this blog know that I have a few favorite technology and call center blogs. I check them often, looking for news, opinions, anecdotes, and controversy, and I often post my findings here.

I'm always looking for more. I'd like to know what technology and call center blogs you read -- e-mail your picks to me at hsheff@cmp.com.

In the meantime, here's a list of a few of my favorites:

1. Jeremy Wagstaff's Loose Wire blog. Wagstaff is a technology writer for the Wall Street Journal. He's based in Indonesia, so his perspective is a little different than ours here in the States. He usually has some interesting customer service stories, thoughts on blogging and some good, unsolicited advice for people in the technology marketing and pr worlds. His latest entry is about the cliches that turn up in the news -- he quotes a study that says "at the end of the day" was used 10,500 times in the U.S. media in the last six months.

2. The Consumerist blog. Run by the Gawker group, this is a crass, chaotic blog about customer service and consumer issues (including tips on deasl and sales) from the consumer perspective. It's great for customer service horror stories, like the recent AOL service cancellation debacle. Now, Consumerist claims they have obtained AOL's customer retention training manual.

3. The Anonymous Cog's Call Center Purgatory blog. The Anonymous Cog (or A.C., as he calls himself) is the only call center manager blogging today that's worth reading. All others have either faded out or just aren't interesting. The Cog is interesting. Right now he's blogging a story, set in a call center, in installments. The Cog works at an investment firm's call center. In a post last month, he described a particularly frustrating call.

4. The VocaLabs blog. This is the best call center-related blog by a vendor of call center products or services. Peter Leppik and Rick Rappe are knowledgeable, thoughtful, and opinionated. Today Rappe blogged about VocaLabs release of its latest quarterly customer service survey of the banking and mobile phone sectors, which is always interesting.

There are many other technology and call center blogs worth reading out there -- what do you read? Tell us about your favorite tech and call center sites. E-mail your picks to me at hsheff@cmp.com.
