Smart Communications, a mobile phone company in the Philippines, has come up with a clever way to market and distribute their services: an Internet cafe and call center mobile unit.
The endeavor, dubbed Smart Click, is a collaboration between Smart Communications and Five9, the San Francisco Bay Area hosted call center services company.
The Manila Times reports: "Smart Click is a mobile Internet cafe by day and call center by night, encased in a 40-foot container van complete with state of the art equipment and applications to cater to markets, specifically in the provinces."
Each mobile unit will have 15 personal computers. The goal, say representatives of Five9 and Smart Communications, is to bring jobs and Internet access to areas of the country that need them.
The mash-up of Internet cafe and call center is not new. As we reported in April, Indian cybercafe franchise Reliance Webworld began marketing one of its Bombay cafes as an after-hours call center, with the idea that all 240 shops in its chain might offer the same.
